🔧 The Setup

💡

Light Controllers

Two 16-channel computerized light controllers — 30 amps each, 32 independent channels total. Each channel can turn on/off, dim, ramp up/down, twinkle, and shimmer.

💻

Sequencing Software

Controllers connect via CAT5 cable to a Windows PC running Light-O-Rama Showtime Suite. Songs are sequenced by hand or purchased pre-sequenced.

📻

FM Transmitter

A Whole House FM Transmitter (FCC Part 15C compliant) broadcasts the synchronized music on 106.9 FM. Tune in from your car!

🌟

Lights

We use LED lights wherever possible, supplemented by older strands that still work great. We stock up on lights at 50–75% off after each season.

📅 Timeline

1996

The Beginning

We started decorating our home for the holidays as a family event. Each year the display grew bigger — typically a two- to three-day setup with the whole family involved.

2007

First Sequenced Songs

Added 3 songs synchronized to music, delivered via outdoor speakers to people watching the display.

2010

Light-O-Rama + FM Radio

Upgraded to new Light-O-Rama sequencing devices and added a Whole House FM Transmitter broadcasting on 106.9 FM. Planning for the 2010 show started in June. This was also the first year of a synchronized Halloween show.

Today

Ongoing Expansion

The display continues to grow each year with new sequences, effects, and props. Check out our Display Projects page for the latest additions.
